A Learner’s License is issued to a person who is willing to learn driving a vehicle. It is a temporary license valid for a limited time. After the completion of training, the holder is supposed to apply for a driver’s license as early as possible.
How to apply for RTO Learning License?
Before you apply for a Driving License, you need to successfully complete your driving lessons. This is possible when you first apply for a Learner’s License, complete the training and then apply for Driving License. You can apply for a Learner’s License via online and offline modes.
Depending on your location, you will find a website dedicated to your state’s RTO. Navigate through the menu to find if your state allows an online application for RTO learning license.
While applying online, you will require the soft copies of the following list of documents. You can download the required forms from RTO’s website:
● Form 1 (physical fitness declaration)
● Form 1 A (Medical certificate by certified doctor, for commercial license and if applicant's age is above 50 years)
● Form No. 2
● Address proof
● Age Proof
● Multiple passport size photographs
Click on apply online or online application links for Learning License. After clicking on apply online, click on New Learner’s License. You will be redirected to the online application form. Fill out the necessary details and upload the documents. If you have all soft copies handy, the application process will be completed quickly. Next, book a slot for online exam and proceed to pay the fees.
Through your state’s RTO website, you can give an RTO learning license exam which tests the applicant’s knowledge of traffic rules and regulations.
It is always a good idea to note the Application Number while applying for a Learning License. For booking a slot for RTO learning test online, visit the online application test page and fill the necessary details like application number, date of birth, etc. Next, enter the verification code displayed on the page and hit Submit.
After clicking on Submit, you will be redirected to the appointment page where you will be given a slot to visit the RTO. After confirming the slot, print the acknowledgement receipt. Carry this receipt with you at the time of booked slot.
The basic eligibility criteria for getting a Learning License is that the applicant should be well versed with traffic rules and regulation. The applicant should also possess the required set of documents.
The age limit for a candidate applying for a license of a vehicle without gear is 16 years. When applying for a license for a vehicle with gear the age limit is 18 years. If applying for a commercial license, the candidate should have extensive experience in driving light motor vehicles. Also, the age limit is 21 years for a commercial license.
Driving license can be acquired only if you have a valid learning license. It is one of the documents required to apply for a driving license. The validity of a learning license is 180 days i.e. six months from the date of issuance.
One can apply for a driving license after 30 days of getting the learning license. The 30-day window is provided to undertake training in order to learn how to drive.
